چکیده

We develop a new method for analyzing the motion of the left ventricle (LV) of a heart from tagged MRI data. Our technique is based on the development of a new class of physics-based deformable models whose parameters are functions allowing the definition of new parameterized primitives and parameterized deformations. These parameter functions improve the accuracy of shape description through the use of a few intuitive parameters such as functional twisting. Furthermore, these parameters require no complex postprocessing in order to be used by a physician. Using a physics-based approach, we convert these geometric models into deformable models that deform due to forces exerted from the datapoints and conform to the given dataset. We present experiments involving the extraction of shape and motion of the LV from MRISPAMM data based on a few parameter functions. Furthermore, by plotting the variations over time of the extracted model parameters from normal and abnormal heart data we are able to characterize quantitatively their differences. Deformable models with parameter functions for cardiac motion analysis from tagged MRI data

The authors present a new method for analyzing the motion of the heart's left ventricle (LV) from tagged magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data. Their technique is based on the development of a new class of physics-based deformable models whose parameters are functions. They allow the definition of new parameterized primitives and parameterized deformations which can capture the local shape vari...

A novel optical flow method for myocardial deformation analysis from tagged MRI

Background Cardiac motion analysis can play an important role in diagnosis of cardiac disease. Tagged magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has the ability to directly and non-invasively alter tissue magnetization and produce tag patterns on the deforming tissue [1-3]. This abstract proposes a novel optical flow method for computing the left ventricular systolic dynamics using harmonic phase (HARP) ...

Myocardial Strain Imaging with Tagged MRI

A 4-D B-spline model has been created to accurately capture the dynamic motion of the heart from tagged magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) enabling displacement field reconstruction of myocardial deformation. The 4-D model is allowed to deform based on the location of the tag lines for all frames within the constraints of the model’s spatiotemporal internal energy. From a displacement field, the ...

Cardiac deformation analysis from orthogonal CSPAMM (OCSPAMM) tagged MRI

Background Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a highly advanced and sophisticated imaging modality for cardiac motion assessment and quantitative analysis. The myocardial tagging techniques have seen wide applications for cardiac deformation analysis (see [1-4] for example). Among different image post-processing techniques, frequency-based methods have played an important role in analysis of h...
